Published results of a recent study provide further evidence of a link between autoimmune diseases like lupus and mood disorders. An analysis of more than 3.5 million people in Denmark showed that the risk of developing a mood disorder was higher among people who had been hospitalized due to an autoimmune disease. Hospitalization due to a severe infection was another strong risk factor for a mood disorder. The study was reported online June 12 in the peer-reviewed journal, JAMA Psychiatry.
