Lupus Patients Growing Old Enough to Suffer Arthrits

A new study reported in a popular medical publication finds that lupus patients are now living long enough to be as bothered by arthritis as the rest of the population! Presented at an American College of Rheumatology meeting, the study showed that the number of hip replacement surgeries are six times greater among people with lupus than 15 years ago. They attribute this dramatic rise to the increase in osteoarthritis among people with lupus and conclude that this reflects their increased life span.  Growing old makes people with lupus as prone to arthritis as other Americans.
