Investigational drug may offer treatment for neuropathic pain of lupus and other diseases

A drug developed by Tel Aviv University researchers, known as BL-7050, may offer new hope to patients with neuropathic pain. The compound seems to inhibit the transmission of pain signals throughout the body. In early-stage testing measuring electrical activity of neurons, the compound has been shown to prevent the hyper-excitability of neurons -- protecting against neuropathic pain and epileptic seizures. The drug is expected to enter the first phase of clinical trials in upcoming months.
