Antimalarial Drugs May Protect Against Organ Damage

Data presented at ACR from the SLICC (Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics) Inception Cohort Study showed that risk factors for future irreversible organ damage in lupus patients include hypertension, the use of corticosteroids, and higher levels of inflammation early on. Study authors point out that these risk factors could potentially be avoided or modified.

The study also showed that antimalarial drugs may protect against irreversible organ damage in lupus patients.
